For TNd Play 0.2.0 Preview on Windows · Updated October 10, 2026

TNd Play plays video and music from your computer. This guide explains how to add files, control playback, create playlists and configure the app. Button names refer to the English interface.

Installation and first launch

  1. Download the Windows installer from the TNd Play page.
  2. Run the installer and follow its instructions.
  3. Open TNd Play. Click Open files, select video or music files and confirm.
  4. Find an imported file in Videos or Music and click its play button.

Importing files does not start playback automatically. You can select several files at once or drag them into the app window.

The app requires Windows 10 version 1709 or later, or Windows 11, and Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime. If WebView2 is missing, the installer offers to install it; downloading this component may require internet access.

Your library is initially empty. To explore the controls before adding your own files, open Settings → Sample media → Open samples.

Your media library

Use the sidebar to switch sections:

Section Contents
Home Recently added files, playlists and unfinished videos
Videos Videos in your library
Music Audio files, with artist, album and cover information when available in their metadata
Playlists Saved collections of files
History Recently played videos and music
Local files Imported folders and files
Settings Language, appearance and playback preferences

Use Search library to find files by title, artist or album. Sort lists by title, duration or time added. If a file's duration is unknown, it appears after you open the file.

Adding a folder

  1. Click Add folder on Home, in Local files or in Settings.
  2. Select a folder containing video or music. The app also scans its subfolders.
  3. Wait for the scan to finish. Use Cancel scan to stop it if necessary.

Files remain in their original folders; the app does not copy your collection. Adding the same file again should not create a separate entry.

When a folder's contents change, open Local files and click Rescan folders. Scanning is manual in this version. Connect any external drive containing your collection before rescanning.

Remove folder disconnects a folder and removes entries associated with its scan. The folder and original files remain on disk. Files imported separately through Open files may remain in the library.

Playing video and music

Open a file from the library. The bottom bar lets you:

  • start and pause playback;
  • move to the previous or next file in the queue;
  • seek by clicking or dragging along the timeline;
  • change the volume or mute audio;
  • choose a speed from 0.5× to 2×;
  • open the queue and playback options menu.

You can browse other sections while a file keeps playing. Back on the player page returns to the previous section.

In Music, click Play all to play the displayed tracks in sequence. If a search is active, only matching tracks are included.

Viewing modes

Cinema mode hides the sidebar and top bar to leave more room for video. Enable it using the button beside the player heading or the ellipsis menu. Controls hide during playback; move the pointer to show them again.

Fullscreen fills the screen with the player. Click its button, press F, or double-click the video. Press Escape to exit. Escape also dismisses menus, dialogs and the queue, so you may need to close those first.

Picture in picture opens video in a separate small window. If available, select it in the playback options menu. Availability depends on the installed WebView2 runtime.

Playback queue

The queue sets the order of files for your current session. Click Queue on the bottom bar to open it.

Open a file's menu using ⋯ or a right-click, then choose:

  • Play next to place it immediately after the current file;
  • Add to queue to place it at the end.

Use Move up and Move down to change the order. Double-click an entry to play it. Remove from queue removes only the queue entry; the library entry and original file remain.

Clear queue removes other entries while keeping the currently selected file. It does not stop that file's playback.

Shuffle and repeat

For music, Shuffle changes the order of waiting tracks after the current track. Turning it off does not automatically restore the previous order.

The repeat button cycles through three modes:

Mode Result
Repeat off Playback stops at the end of the queue
Repeat all The queue starts again after its last file
Repeat one The current file starts again when it ends

Enable Settings → Automatically play next to advance automatically between files, including with Repeat all. Repeat one works independently of this setting.

Playlists

A playlist is a saved collection you can return to later.

  1. Open Playlists and click Create playlist.
  2. Enter a name and confirm.
  3. Open a file's menu, choose Add to playlist, and select the collection.
  4. Open the collection and click Play playlist.

You can also create a playlist directly in the Add to playlist dialog.

Inside a playlist, rename it, move entries up or down, or choose Remove from playlist for a file. Clear the search field if the reordering buttons are hidden.

Delete playlist deletes the collection. Original files and library entries remain.

History and resuming playback

Enable Settings → Remember playback position to resume unfinished videos. Find a video in History or Continue watching on Home and open it again. A video watched almost to the end starts from the beginning on its next launch.

Clear history removes the recently played list and its saved positions. Files remain in the library and on disk.

Subtitles

This version supports external UTF-8 SRT files up to 2 MB.

  1. Open a video.
  2. Click the ellipsis on the playback bar and choose Open SRT subtitles.
  3. Select your subtitle file.
  4. Use the Subtitles switch in the same menu to show or hide the text.

Change the text size in Settings → Subtitle text size.

If subtitles do not match the dialogue, adjust Subtitle delay (seconds) in Settings or the player menu. Positive values show text later; negative values show it earlier. For example, +1.5 delays it by one and a half seconds.

Select the subtitle file again after switching to another video or restarting the app. Text size and delay are saved in Settings.

Managing files: what gets removed

Open a file's menu using ⋯ or a right-click. Different commands affect different parts of your collection:

Command Result Original file on disk
Remove from queue Removes the entry from the current queue Kept
Remove from playlist Removes it only from that collection Kept
Remove from library Removes it from the library, queue, history and playlists Kept
Delete file from disk Moves the file to the Windows Recycle Bin and removes it from the app Removed from its original folder

After Remove from library, rescanning does not restore the entry automatically. To add it again, explicitly select the file through Open files.

To delete an original file, choose Delete file from disk, check its name and full path, then confirm the app's request and the additional request in a separate dialog. If the Recycle Bin is unavailable or the operation fails, the app does not fall back to permanent deletion.

To restore a deleted file, recover it from the Windows Recycle Bin and open it in TNd Play again.

Show in folder opens the file's location in File Explorer. Disk operations are unavailable for bundled samples.

Language and appearance

In Settings, select Russian or English as the interface language. Your choice is saved; file names and artist information are not translated.

Appearance offers two themes: Dark and Midnight. Version 0.2.0 Preview does not include a custom theme editor or theme import.

Keyboard shortcuts

Keys Action
Space Play or pause
Left / Right Seek backward or forward by 5 seconds
Shift + Left / Right Seek by 10 seconds

Keys retain normal behavior in input fields and dialogs. Space activates a focused button. Keyboard shortcuts in the sidebar also lists these controls.

Troubleshooting

A file is in the library but will not play

Playback depends on the codecs inside the file and the WebView2 runtime. An extension such as .mp4 or .mkv alone does not guarantee playback. This Preview release does not support every format or codec.

Check that the file is available and undamaged. Try another file; MP4 with H.264/AAC, WebM, MP3 or WAV can help you check playback. If the codec is the problem, try a copy converted to a compatible format.

A file is missing or unavailable

Connect the drive and check the file's location and permissions. If you moved or renamed it, open it again or use Rescan folders for its imported folder.

Seeking does not work

Wait for the duration to load and the file to become ready. If seeking is reported as unavailable, try another file: not every media file allows arbitrary timeline jumps.

Subtitles are not visible

Check the Subtitles switch, whether the file has cues for the current time, and the delay value. Use a valid UTF-8 SRT file. Load the appropriate subtitles again after changing videos.

A file cannot be deleted

Close other programs that may be using it and try again. If the Recycle Bin is unavailable, the file stays in place.

Local data and feedback

You do not need an account to play local files. Your library, playlists, history and preferences are stored locally on your computer. Normal playback does not require internet access after installation.
